Gen Con 2013

This is a list of my proposed Gen Con workshops. The times, dates, and offerings are subject to change. If you are going to Gen Con, I’d love to have you at one of my workshops! If you are not going to Gen Con, but are interested in any of these workshops, drop me a line and we can figure out a time that I can teach you or your group any of these topics.

Aug. 15th Thursday

Pinweaving – Tote Bag Pocket (9-11am)
Learn how to turn left over bits of yarn & fabric into beautiful one-of-a-kind accent pieces. In this workshop, you will receive a tote bag which you will adorn with a beautiful pin woven pocket.
Feel free to bring your own tools or materials you might want to use to add to your piece. Bringing your own scissors will allow you to work freely without waiting.

Epoxy Clay – Elemental Ring (11-1pm)
Learn how to work with epoxy clay to create a ring to harness your elemental power. Epoxy clay is a 2-part clay that bonds to most materials, is easy to model, and becomes rock hard in about 2 hours.
Feel free to bring your own modeling tools, latex gloves, or inclusion materials you might want to use to complete your piece. Bringing your own modeling tools will allow you to work freely without waiting.

Potions of Health & Healing (2-3pm)
In this informational workshop, we will learn how to use essential oils for healing and wellness purposes. Sit back, relax, and walk away with a potion and recipes to sooth your body’s needs.
This is a mostly informational workshop with a little hands-on activity. We will mostly be learning about different essential oils, what they are used to heal, how to use them, and recipes for delivery products. You will walk away with a recipe book, oil chart, and a sample of what you can make at home.

Bookbinding – Souvenir Journal (3-5pm)
Start Gen Con off right by making souvenir journal. We will create a custom book to fit your needs. It will have pockets, notebook pages, as well as places to paste your Gen Con ephemera & photos.
Feel free to bring your own tools or materials you might want to use to add to your piece. Bringing your own scissors will allow you to work freely without waiting.

Needle Felting – Woodland Creature (5-7pm)
Learn how to turn fluffy wool into a soft sculpture with needle felting. We will create a 3-dimentional woodland creature. Learn different tips and tricks for this highly addictive craft.
If you have a specific creature in mind that you would like to create, I encourage you to bring pictures of it for visual references, but you will not be lost without them. Felting is very forgiving and always evolves into something wonderful.

Aug 16th Friday

Needle Felting – Winged Fairy (9-11am)
Learn how to turn fluffy wool into a soft sculpture with needle felting. We will create a 3-D fairy complete with wire & film wings. Learn different tips and tricks for this highly addictive craft.
If you have a specific creature in mind that you would like to create, I encourage you to bring pictures of it for visual references, but you will not be lost without them. Felting is very forgiving and always evolves into something wonderful.

Bookbinding – Leather-bound Journal (11-1pm)
Create an intimate leather journal with a soft wraparound cover. This binding technique is easy enough for a beginning book binder and versatile enough for someone with more experience.
Feel free to bring your own tools or materials you might want to use to add to your piece. Bringing your own scissors will allow you to work freely without waiting.

Pin Weaving – Coin Purse (3-5pm)
Learn how to turn left over bits of yarn & fabric into beautiful one-of-a-kind accent pieces. In this workshop, you will create a pin woven wallet or coin purse with a button closure.
Feel free to bring your own tools or materials you might want to use to add to your piece. Bringing your own scissors will allow you to work freely without waiting.

Epoxy Clay – Toy Modification (5-7pm)
Learn how to work with epoxy clay to alter your plastic toys to create custom works. Epoxy clay is a 2-part clay that bonds to most materials, is easy to model, and becomes rock hard in about 2 hours.
YOU WILL BE GIVEN A RANDOM TOY TO WORK WITH UNLESS YOU BRING YOUR OWN!! My Little Pony, Barbie, Munny, etc. are great toys to work with. Your toy WILL be permanently altered, so only bring a toy you are willing to risk messing up on.

Aug. 17th Saturday

Bookbinding – Hardback Coptic Binding (9-11am)
Create an impressive hard-cover Coptic book. This binding technique can be more frustrating than others for a beginner, but the outcome is beautiful.
Feel free to bring your own tools or materials you might want to use to add to your piece. Bringing your own scissors will allow you to work freely without waiting.

Needle Felting – Pocket Pet (11-1pm)
Learn how to turn fluffy wool into a soft sculpture with needle felting. We will create a 3-dimentional pocket-sized pet companion. Learn different tips and tricks for this highly addictive craft.
If you have a specific creature in mind that you would like to create, I encourage you to bring pictures of it for visual references, but you will not be lost without them. Felting is very forgiving and always evolves into something wonderful.

Epoxy Clay – “Ear Wings” (3-5pm)
Learn how to work with epoxy clay to create a pair of hook-on wing ear ornaments. Epoxy clay is a 2-part clay that bonds to most materials, is easy to model, and becomes rock hard in about 2 hours.

Pinweaving – Small Jewelry & Accent Pieces (5-7pm)
Learn how to turn left over bits of yarn & fabric into beautiful one-of-a-kind accent pieces. In this workshop, you will create small-scale pin weavings perfect for jewelry or accent design.

Aug. 18th Sunday

Epoxy Clay – Jeweled Pendant or Beads (9-11am)
Learn how to work with epoxy clay to sculpt a unique jeweled pendant or accent beads. Epoxy clay is a 2-part clay that bonds to most materials, is easy to model, & becomes rock hard in about 2 hours.

Pinweaving – Wall Art (11-1pm)
Learn how to turn left over bits of yarn & fabric into beautiful one-of-a-kind accent pieces. In this workshop, you will begin a large-scale pin weaving perfect for framing and hanging on the wall.
Feel free to bring your own tools or materials you might want to use to add to your piece. Bringing your own scissors will allow you to work freely without waiting.

Needle Felting – Monster (2-4pm)
Learn how to turn fluffy wool into a soft sculpture with needle felting. We will create a 3-dimentional monstrous creature. Learn different tips and tricks for this highly addictive craft.
If you have a specific creature in mind that you would like to create, I encourage you to bring pictures of it for visual references, but you will not be lost without them. Felting is very forgiving and always evolves into something wonderful.
